When we neglect our relationship with God for awhile what happens?
The sin nature that still lives in us takes over.
One bad decision at a time.
It's going back to what we used to be.
Backsliding.
And make no mistake.
It's a downhill slide all the way.
Been there.
Done that.
But what amazes me is that God never gives up on us.
He honors a sincere heart that desires to come back to Him:
James 4:8 (NLT) "Draw close to God, and God will draw close to you……”
The enemy of our souls wants us to give up hope.
"You're too far gone. God will never take you back now" he sneers.
It’s a lie!
Jesus said.....
Luke 15:4-7 (ESV) 4 "What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? 5 And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.' 7 Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance."
God isn't stingy with His forgiveness.
And whether you've been sliding downhill fast or have already crashed to the bottom there's great hope.
Reach out your hand.
Grab onto the only one that can lift you up and bring you back home.
You'll be able to recognize it.
Look for the holes where they drove in the nails.
